As we know, the DVD is a type of optical disc technology with a 4.7 gigabyte storage capacity on a single-sided, one-layered disk. DVD uses MPEG-2 to compress video data, which is not an ideal formats for editing with FCP X/7/6 on Mac. To work FCP edit smoothly with DVD videos, we advise you transcode and convert Convert DVD to Apple ProRes 422 via a third party DVD ripping tool.
We have test a lot of freeware like MakeMKV, Handbrake. They don’t provide the Apple ProRes 422 as output format, and Handbrake won’t decrypt commercial DVD copy protections as well. Guide: Convert DVD to Apple ProRes 422 for FCP X/7/6
1. Load DVD files
Insert your DVD disc into DVD drive and then run the Mac DVD converting software. Click Load DVD button to load the movies from your DVD discs. You can also import ISO/IFO files. On the right windows, you can preview your files and take snapshots of your favorite movie scenes.
Tip: After the files are loaded, you can select the subtitles and audio track you prefer.
2. Set output format
Tap the “Format” bar and get the dropdown menu, then move your pointer to choose “Final Cut Pro> Apple PreRes 422” or “Apple ProRes 422 HQ” or “Apple ProRes 4444” as the output format.
Sweet Reminder: FCP 7 older version only can work with Apple PreRes 422 MOV format.
3. Start the conversion
Click “Convert” button to transcode and converte DVD videos to Apple ProRes 422 encode .mov files. After the conversion, click “Open” folder to find converted footage for importing to Final Cut Pro X or FCP 7/6 beautifully.
